The Lowlands is the second biggest region of whiskey in terms of geography, Encompassing everything on the mainland south of Glasgow and Edinburgh (and a little bit further north, too). However, the Lowlands doesn’t have as many famous distilleries as other locations.

Also, many Lowland malts were dried with coal instead of peat, which tends to make Lowland whiskies lighter and fruitier than their counterparts in other peat-favouring regions.
